Today, I just saw an article in the suggestions sector of Google chrome which read
SHOCKING! Oxford Dictionary’s synonyms for women
The article ends like:
“it’s time that keepers of the world’s words, Oxford’s lexicographers, wake up and smell the coffee.”
I just opened it and I was shocked… Like thisππ
Then I went to Google search and just typed “synonyms of woman” and this is what I found… ππ
And this was disgusting!!
Synonym is a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word or phrase in the same language, for example shut is a synonym of close. (Google Search)
So, will you ever call a woman as Petticoat or a Baggage??
And a man as a dude, a gentleman, a guy or a youth??
I strongly feel that “it’s time that keepers of the world’s words, Oxford’s lexicographers, wake up and smell the coffee.”
Reblogged this on Therapy Bits and commented:
Showing my support! This is indeed shocking!

But surely they are saying its derogatory to call a woman baggage and its an historic reference to call a woman petticoat, they are not saying that is what a woman should be referred to they are saying that is what a woman has been referred to.

Excellent point! That’s not the only offensively defined (by synonym) word. Shall we make a new thesaurus? : ) Rebecca
P.S. woman: goddess, diva, nightingale, muse, justice…
